Unit Type

2023 Grenache Rosé

TASTING NOTE

A dry style rosé showing fresh aromatics of red cherry, rose petal, citrus blossom and hints of bath salt minerality. The wine has a bright and crisp acidity with flavours cranberry, turkish delight, hints of citrus and finishes with a lingering savoury finish.

VINEYARD

A blend of Grenache fruit from younger vines giving fresh fruit aromas and flavours, combined with Grenache fruit from 50-year-old dry grown bush vines for depth, spice, and complexity.
The young vineyard block of Grenache was planted from cuttings taken from the 100 year old Smart vineyard that we use for one of our single vineyard wines.
The vines are grown in sandy soils over ironstone in the Blewitt Springs sub region of McLaren Vale and benefit from the cooling breezes flowing down from the Mount Lofty Ranges and in from the nearby coast.

VINTAGE

Weather conditions during spring were wet and windy which had an impact on flowering and resulted in small crops.  Cool and wet conditions continued into early summer, but thankfully the rain stopped around Christmas time to allow the fruit to start to ripen and to keep the disease at bay.  Harvest started much later than average due to the cooler conditions- Whilst we had to pick some of the reds around rain events they mostly ripened well with fresh and vibrant fruit flavours.

The 23 vintage wines are showing elegance and finesse, with fresh fruit flavours, fine tannins and good acidity.

WINE MAKING

Hand-harvested and gently pressed, this dry style rosé underwent a slow and cool fermentation in stainless steel with extended time on lees ad regular stirring to build texture and mouthfeel. Wine is vegan friendly.

FOOD PAIRING

Salt and pepper calamari with garlic aioli and a squeeze of lemon or steamed fish with ginger.

"Another superb Grenache, this time made as Rosé, showing just how wonderfully versatile this grape can be. From 50-year-old dry grown bush vines, this is a vibrant yet a very pale pink hue. The nose is utterly alluring with strawberry and cream notes, raspberries and florals, all beautifully fragrant. There is a fine line of acidity here, running the journey. Soft, effusive, gentle, this has serious and surprising length with fine balance. Drink now and for two to three years. Love it."
