TASTING NOTE

This wine has a bright lifted nose of redcurrant, boysenberry and violets.  This profile continues onto the palate where the red berry fruit is complimented with warm cinnamon spice, orange zest and cranberry. The wine finishes with a bright, juicy acidity and lingering fine grained tannins.

VINTAGE

We experienced another excellent growing season in 2021/2022 with a wet winter setting the vines up nicely. A very mild, but also dry, summer/autumn followed – meaning there was low disease pressure over a very gentle and extended ripening period.

Yields were slightly down on average but with other conditions being favourable, the season has resulted in excellent wines showing great varietal character and lovely fresh natural acidity.

VINEYARD

A single vineyard Grenache sourced from Sue Trott’s vineyard in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. The Vineyard's dry grown bush vines were planted in 1952 and are grown on deep Maslin Sand over clay and ironstone. Vineyard is situated at 210m above sea level on an East facing slope.

WINEMAKING

Fruit was hand harvested, 10% whole bunch, remainder destemmed into stainless steel open fermenters. The ferment spent 10 days on skins, during which time it was gently plunged to ensure optimum extraction whilst maintaining the delicate aromatics. Wine was basket pressed off skins before maturation and malolactic fermentation on lees in stainless steel to retain fruit purity and freshness.

The Real Review - Huon Hooke

"Deep-ish purple red colour with a slightly reserved but attractive aroma of discreet spice and dark berry fruits. Intense, focused palate with tight, firm tannins on an elegant framework. Stylish and promising grenache with impressive structure. (About 10% whole-bunch fermentation, only a small proportion went into oak)"

Halliday Wine Companion - Ned Goodwin

"Hewn of old-vine fruit from the legendary Trott vineyard in Blewitt Springs. There is a great deal of attention paid here to tannin management, which I appreciate. After all, the tamarind, raspberry liqueur, cardamon and Moroccan basement scents need some sort of savoury, sinewy placation. This, mid-weighted of feel yet dense and dutifully fresh, manages it with aplomb."
