Grenache Rosé
New Release Grenache Rosé
Our 2021 Vintage
Here at Willunga 100, our winemaker Skye Salter is embracing the versatility of Grenache with the release of our 2021 Grenache Rosé.
With a vision to create premium wines which have a focus on grenache, this exciting release comes just in time for summer!
A bone-dry and refreshing wine, enjoy aromatics of strawberries, raspberries and subtle white florals. You’ll find a bright and crisp acidity with flavours of pink lady apple, citrus and a hint of watermelon on the palate, supported by a crunchy texture and lingering savoury finish.
Our McLaren Vale Vines
This new style of dry and pale Grenache was made possible by our purchase of a well-known Blewitt Springs vineyard known as “Blind Spot”, predominately made up of 50+ year old bush vine Grenache.
This year, we celebrate the fourth vintage of this wine and 15 years of championing Grenache from McLaren Vale.
The chosen block for the rosé has dry grown bush vines planted in 1968. The age of the vines gives the wine complexities that wouldn’t be achievable from other younger Grenache vines.
The ‘Making of’ with our Winemaker Skye Salter
With a new female winemaker at the helm, we’re loving Skye’s fresh, vibrant style of wines and the exciting possibilities that the Blind Spot Vineyard brings to the team.
We asked Skye why she is so passionate about Grenache. This is what she said; "Firstly, I love Grenache for how versatile it is as a drink. As a medium bodied red wine, it lends itself to year round drinking.”
“Grenache is full of vibrant fruit with a very seductive nose, loads of interest on the palate, spice, and textural tannins. And most importantly, each Grenache tells a story of where it's from. At Willunga 100, we're big on ensuring the characteristics of the site are reflected in the glass."
The fruit for our 2021 Grenache Rosé is hand-harvested and gently pressed, with alcoholic fermentation taking place in stainless steel. The wine spent 4 months on lees and chilled post fermentation with regular lees stirring to build texture and mouthfeel.
Skye added, “I love this wine with fresh seafood, especially with flavours of garlic, lemon or ginger. It brings the best out in the wine, and enhances the flavour of the meal”.
