Willunga 100’s 2024 Trott Vineyard Grenache has been awarded the George Mackey Memorial Perpetual Trophy for Best Grenache and also the Best Small Producer Wine Trophy at the prestigious 2025 Royal Sydney Wine Show. The Willunga 100 Smart Vineyard Grenache also received 95 Points and a Gold Medal, with Willunga 100 therefore taking two out of three of the top places in the Grenache category.

The Royal Sydney Wine Show is the industry benchmark for excellence. The RAS notes “A Sydney Royal win is a testament of achievement at the highest level, and recognises personal dedication, ability, uncompromising diligence, and good old Aussie passion and hard work”.

Sourced from the Trott Vineyard in Blewitt Springs, this wine exemplifies the power, purity, and finesse of Grenache from this part of McLaren Vale. Grown on deep sandy soils from 72 year old dry-grown bush vines, the 2024 vintage builds on the vineyard’s long history of producing distinctive Grenache.

These old bush vines planted in deep sand in Blewitt Springs produce wines with vibrancy, purity and elegance, lovely natural acidity and fine tannins that combine so well with the multiple layers of savoury flavour to give a wine of great complexity. It is such a pleasure to be able to work with this fruit!” said Willunga 100 winemaker Renae Hirsch when asked about the Trott vineyard.

This latest accolade builds on the momentum of Willunga 100’s remarkable success at the 2024 National Wine Show, where their 2023 McLaren Vale Grenache made history by winning the Prime Minister’s Trophy for Champion Wine of Show, the first time Grenache has taken out the top award in the show’s 50-year history.

At the same event, the 2023 vintage of the Trott Vineyard Grenache received a gold medal and was also named a finalist for the Best Grenache trophy.
