At Willunga 100, we take pride in making award-winning McLaren Vale wine with a focus on premium Grenache. Our small and passionate team, led by winemakers Mike Farmilo and Tim James, have created an exciting and vibrant range that truly showcases the magic of our region.

The soils in McLaren Vale are some of the oldest in the world, estimated at over 500 million years old. This means low vigour, ensuring low yields in the vineyard, so combined with the old vines, stunning fruit is produced. Before our first vintage in 2005, our team walked through the McLaren Vale vineyards and came across plots of 50 year old Grenache. At this time most of the wine produced from this fruit was blended away as there was little demand for quality Grenache. We decided this had to change, so we made these vines our focus and gave them the attention they deserved. We haven’t looked back since.

If you’re wondering where our name comes from, when the town of Willunga was just starting out, governments stated that 100+ households needed to occupy an area in order to qualify for a place on the map. The McLaren Vale district was then divided up in to 100’s or small lots and much of our fruit comes from the area that once was the ‘Hundred of Willunga’.

The tree on our label is an old River Red Gum that stands tall over the vineyards.  It was well over a hundred years old when the first vines were planted in Australia in the 1840s.
