Willunga 100 is one of the most impressive newer ventures in  McLaren Vale, established by a group including David Gleave MW of Liberty Wines, one of Britain’s most important fine wine distributors. With a lifetime’s experience at Hardy’s, Tim James is the consultant to winemaker Kate Day. 
Grenache,Shiraz and Viognier are all Mediterranean grapes that need plenty of sun and heat, which McLaren Vale can easily provide, and the 2010 vintage resulted in more elegant wines than is perhaps usual for the area.
The Grenache impresses me especially; while McLaren Vale routinely excels with this grape, this is a cut above. There should be more Grenaches of its quality – but then seasons like 2010 don’t come along every year.
